Energy Drinks: The New Drug on the Youth Scene
Feel like having a Red Bull Vodka? In a 2007 survey it was found that 27 percent of the college students surveyed reported concocting energy drink cocktails with alcohol at least once in the last month.Mixing the two elixirs can be hazardous to your health researchers say. Ingesting energy drinks with liquor has the effect of depressing the central nervous system so that you are less likely to gauge your own degree of intoxication. Less care enabled by the desensitizing effects of the cocktail, puts a person at much greater risk of alcohol-related injury.
Is it any surprise then that a 2008 study showed that as energy drinks become more and more appealing to a wider range of people there is a corresponding increase in the abuse of prescription stimulants such as amphetamines and methylphenidate.
